We are not looking for huge or impressive houses. Our first priority is to provide a safe and caring home for our students.
These are the kind of things we are looking for:
- A means of transport (car) is a must
- A spare room or a room that can be given over to students
- The room should have two single beds (bunk beds are fine)
- A friendly, inviting home
If you are not sure if your home is suitable, please just give us a call. We can go over what is needed and let you know then and there.
All our hosts must also have a DBS check and supply two references. If you don’t already have a DBS check (the old CRB), then we can do a check for you at no extra expense.
What about if my house is a bit busy and disorganised?
Hosts are very important for the students.
The most important thing that hosts provide for these students is a warm, welcoming home environment. Students are staying in your home as a part of the family. We don’t expect you to do anything special or change your living arrangements on their behalf.
We would expect most family houses to be a bit busy and disorganised so that is fine.
The Application Process:
If you would like to become a host for us and have all of the necessary requirements please contact us and one of our Accommodation Team members will come and visit you in your home. They will help you fill in the application form and ask you to sign a contract with us. You will need to provide the necessary documentation from above as well as your bank account details in order to get expenses paid. If you would like to know more about this fantastic opportunity please contact us and we will be happy to help.
What is a DBS check?
All of our main hosts have to have a valid DBS check carried out in the last 3 years. This is required by the law for anyone working, volunteering with or hosting young people under the age of 18. It is a check to make sure that you don’t have any criminal record that stops you from hosting young people.
If you don’t already have a valid check, we can arrange that for you. It is a simple process and usually takes about 3 weeks.
